Karate jitsu is a dynamic and effective
self defense method known for its fast and
    powerful movements.  There are several
aspects involved in this art.  Kihon are
basics; they are the fundamental body
postures and movements which make up the
    art.
Kata are a series of techniques
assembled as a physical textbook of martial
knowledge.  Bunkai is the interpretation of
self defense techniques from the kata. There
    are literally hundreds of techniques
contained in each kata.  The study of the
kata and bunkai are the heart and core of
karate jitsu.  Through this training, the
    martial artist internalizes self defense
movements, to the point where that they
    become unconscious and natural. Kata
movements also serve the purpose of
    disguising their most effective techniques.
    These are deciphered through systematic
    study with a qualified instructor.

Basics (kihon) are divided into several
    categories:
  • Stances (dachi) teach a student how to
direct and focus their energy in different
directions while using their whole body
    as a source of power.
  • Strikes (Tsuki) and kicks (Geri) direct
force to specific targets; including the
    study of vital points.
  • Blocks (Uke) absorb, redirect, and
    transition an attackers force into
    counter techniques including strikes,
    kicks, or throws.
  • Ukemi (falling), Nage (throws), Shime
    (constrictions) are integrated through an
understanding of kata bunkai, and are
critical aspects of karate jitsu.  These
are more fully described in the ju jitsu
    curriculum.
