arts. Both involve cultivation of internal energy for health and martial applications. Taiji as a martial art emphasizes subtle, flowing movements. Self-defense applications involve subtleties of leverage and balance. Applications within the form are practiced as a method to learn and better understand the movements themselves. Initially, the 8 movements of the Taiji Moquan, or "mother form" are taught. Subsequent movements are taught as an individual is ready to learn them. Students progress at their own pace, and new students are always welcome. The Taiji form which I feature is of the Wudang He style. It is taught to me by Master Zhongxian Wu, 12th generation lineage holder. Wudang He Taiji has roots in the 5 element theory and the bagua. |
