Ju jitsu is known for its emphasis of fluid
movements, flowing with the energy of an attacker
to use their energy against them.  A characteristic
of jujitsu is the practitioner using chokes, pressure
points, and joint locks to subdue and attacker.  
There are several components to the study of ju
jitsu, the primary ones are: ukemi (falling), striking
(atemi), joint locking and manipulation (Kansetsu
waza), unbalancing and use of a partners energy
(kuzushi), throws (Nage), constrictions (shime), and
ground based techniques (ne waza).

Fundamental ju jitsu techniques:
  • Falling (Ukemi):  A critical aspect of jujitsu.  
    Allows a student to receive throws and other
    techniques in a safe and relaxed manner.
  • Striking (Atemi):  Includes study of vital
    points for striking, and other aspects of karate
    curriculum
  • Joint manipulation (kansetsu waza)&
    Constrictions (Shime): Applied through
    throws, locks, and control techniques.
  • Throws (Nage):  The following is a partial list
    of fundamental throwing arts: Hiza kansetsu,
    yoko gari, deashi harai, osoto gari, ogoshi,
    seoinage, okure-ashi-harai, tsurikomigoshi,
    harai goshi, hane goshi, magaru karada, uchi
    mata, yoko gake, shikoro tori.
